    A  DEADLY  MISUNDERSTANDING | MARK SILJANDER

    Join us for a unique exploration of the common ground between Islam and Christianity drawing on the real-life international experiences of author and US Congressman, Mark D. Siljander (ret).  His innovative peacemaking efforts have instigated real change amidst political stalemates in countries such as Sudan, Afghanistan, Libya, and Iraq. We’ll discuss the differences and similarities between these two faiths, strategy for contributing positive presence rather than fear and mistrust and how a renewal of ancient spiritual values contributes to alleviation of major conflicts today.  $60

    This course surveys the cultures of Florida from the Paleo‑Indian, Archaic, Woodlands and Mississippian periods through the contact, mission, colonization and territorial periods.  The methods of prehistory and ethnohistory will be compared and contrasted as sources. $60 

     

    NARRATIVE THERAPY | KATHLEEN  BAUTZ

    This course introduces the notion that problems and the therapeutic theories utilized to address them are naturally defined with the knowledge and power the culture (and smaller subsystems, i.e. family) gives them.  Students are presented exercises to broaden their perspective of their own stories by externalizing them in a narration.  It is a “respectful, yet playful” approach to addressing how much. $60 

     

    NATURAL HISTORY OF THE FLORIDA  KEYS | ANNE BAXTER

    In this course, we will learn of the natural history of the plants, animals, geology, and natural occurrences in our surrounding environment of the Florida Keys. $60

    The maritime history of Florida has been instrumental in the development of the region and a critical component of survival since the first Spanish period. Even today, the maritime industry remains a critical component to Florida’s economy and a factor in its development. $60

     

    CAFÉ CINEMA: WAR & POLITICS | CARRIE CAIGNET

    The human race seems inextricably bound to war and politics. Films on the subjects can be evocative, allowing reflection and perspective.  In this course, films on the subjects of war and politics will be presented followed by a group discussion. $60

     

    GAMES  PEOPLE  PLAY | MEREDITH CLINE 

    Remember the days when we would get together for dinner at a friend’s house, and after dinner we would play some kind of game? Well, let’s relive those days of interaction with our friends and family.  This course will be fun, fun, fun.  We will study and learn games we grew up with, plus new games of many different kinds.  This will be a hands-on course, learning by playing. $60

    In this course, we will delve into the world of art to discover how the works reflect the passion, culture and perspective of the artist and the issues facing the world at the time in which it was created. $60

    Seeing issues from through another person’s eyes can be insightful and provocative. In this course, films from various cultures will be presented each week followed by an engaging group discussion. $60
